Data replication in Oracle database

Different types of replication mechanism used in Oracle distributed database from version Oracle 7 to Oracle 10g are explained in the lecture.

ABSTRACT

This article presents different types of replication mechanism (synchronous and asynchronous) used in Oracle distributed database from version Oracle 7 to Oracle 10g (e.g. Read-only Materialized View, Updateable Materialized View, Multi-master replication, Procedural replication, Oracle Streams). Because Oracle Standard database originally does not have synchronous replication, to resolve this problem, we have developed our own solution and special attention is given to this solution. Implemented in over 100 data base installations across Croatia, the largest one include 35 distributed databases servers interconnected with speed ranging from 64 Kbps to 100 Mbps over mixed optical, wireless, ISDN and plane telephone leased lines.
